VVPSS Exhaust Filter – ITER

Engineering, manufacture and qualification of a nuclear-grade filtration system

Engineering development and manufacture of a nuclear-grade HEPA filter for ITER’s Vacuum Vessel Pressure Suppression System (VVPSS).

Description

The project.

As a direct supplier to ITER Organization, AVANCEM is involved in developing the VVPSS Exhaust Filter, a nuclear-grade filtration system integrated into the Vacuum Vessel Pressure Suppression System (VVPSS). The work takes the mechanical engineering from technical requirements and concept through to a design ready for manufacture.

The scope combines structural integrity verification with manufacturing, welding, integration, inspection, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), qualification activities and delivery. Engineering, industrial processes and quality documentation are coordinated to meet ITER’s demanding nuclear safety, verification and traceability requirements.

Technical scope

  • Mechanical design development and design for manufacture
  • Structural integrity verification and integration interfaces
  • Manufacture, welding and assembly of the filtration system
  • Inspection, examination and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)
  • Qualification activities, quality documentation and delivery
